Lila lives in a small village on a mountainside, but she is separated from her mother when she goes off to boarding school. Just coming into womanhood, Lila also wants to find the father she has never seen. However, her mother’s objection and the boarding school’s strict rules make it difficult for Lila to start this search. Her homeroom teacher Jimena then decides to secretly help her, and one night, teacher and pupil set out on a challenging journey to search for Lila’s father. They finally find him, but Lila soon finds herself in an unexpected situation. Natural Sciences, Matias Lucchesi’s debut feature honored with the grand prix in the Generation K Plus section at Berlin International Film Festival, focuses on the psyche of Lila as she matures into a woman, her wish to find her father and her heartwarming relationship with Jimena. The natural landscape and objects that are seen in the cold Argentinean winter symbolize the film’s general atmosphere, while the title encompasses all of the film’s images, emotions and impulses.
