Since 1996, director Chu Hsien-jer has documented the abused animals of Taiwan. In Pick of the Litter-Stray dogs in Taiwan, he views the life of a woman who takes care of the stray dogs. But this film isn’t simply depicting animal abuse. Through this subject, the filmmaker reveals the problems underneath the surface of Taiwan’s fast growing industrial society. Pick of the Litter-Stray dogs in Taiwan was the winner of the Best Documentary award at the 2001 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
