Based on a true story, Yossi & Jagger is about two men, Israeli army officers serving in Lebanon, who are also secret lovers. Yossi is the authoritative company commander. Jagger is the handsome and charismatic platoon leader. The other soldiers at their remote base include one who longs for Tibetan spirituality, another who is a chef capable of making wonderful sushi from army loof (canned meat), an obtuse and coarse battalion commander, a captivating woman soldier with loose morals, another woman soldier who’s a hopeless romantic, and more. The only common denominator among this diverse group of 20-year-olds is their lust for life. But in the film as in life, death closes in on these young and vital Israelis. The love affair between Yossi and Jagger complicates what is an already precarious situation for these soldiers. Without flag-waving or ideological posturing, the film depicts characters who face death every day.
