A precious talent in Taiwanese cinema, Tay-jou LIN, directs a documentary about the agony and confusion of his young students. Having been a teacher at college for the last decade, LIN has selected three stories by his students and completed the film with them. The first story is about the past of a female student who paid for her own education due to the economic difficulties of her family. The second film is a confession of a male student who spent his younger years in confusion, constantly switching girlfriends. The last film is about a female student who has fed her sexual fantasy by watching porn ever since she was a child. Their pasts told in the film isn’t unusual for average students, although filled with violence, rape, and suicide impulse. They represent the social and sexual identity issues which all youngsters must go through. Like a line from the film, “there isn’t a student nowadays who carries books in his/her school bag”, they pass one tiring day after another. Their moments of youth are exposed effectively through the director’s narration, reconstruction of the situations, and use of animation; they provoke sympathy and reflection on the pain of growing up and the role of society in the matter.
