The director showed a disabled female getting married and giving birth in The Wedding Story of a Woman with Disability (1999). Now, he follows Jin-ok as the mother of a school-aged daughter. Suh-kyung enters grade 1 and Jin-ok sees her daughter experience things she never did. Her worries about education are revealed through marital feuds and various other complications. As mothers often have apprehensions about their own identities, Jin-ok also sets out to find work for herself. It is not easy but her longing for a new world is realized bit by bit. Meanwhile, her daughter naturally accepts living with a disabled mother and a father who also plays the role of mother. Perhaps the director’s long-term close relationship with the family helps the audience feel closer and more familiar with the family. (HONG Hyosook)
