Program Note
There was a small record shop in a little town where the director spent his childhood. One day, he finds the record shop closed and traces back in his memory what that place meant to people. A community culture that had formed around the “Billboard Record” shop has slowly disappeared and he watched it happen. He looks back into the past by visiting the present lives of the people who spent their years of youth at the record shop. Among the people he visited, there is a D.J. at a radio station still living the life of music. There are also people who work in careers far from music. He also visits the owner of the record shop. Their lives have gone down different paths but music still accompanies their daily lives. They have lost contact with one another but the audience, seeing traces of their memories, feel as if they still exist in a community. This personal memoir portrays a music industry where record shops cannot survive. Billboard Record might be a story of things being forgotten and everyone who misses them. (HONG Hyosook)
