Program Note
A coming-of-age story by Wen-Tang Cheng, who has been telling stories of the native and the isolated. The youth rebel and are passionate out of control, yet they still hold onto innocence. Four high school teens ? music-loving Yvette on temporary absence from school due to her illness, her friend Wendy, Jimmy who publicly announces his love for a female teacher and gets expelled, and Akira who is devoted to soccer ? spend the last days of summer with love and passion. At times, their passion runs out of control; they are filled with lovely innocence inside. Their friendship ripens as they learn about the tragedy that happened to Willy, a kid in a broken home in the neighborhood. A beautiful view of the creek in mid-summer, ripening rice fields, and bright sunlight, in keeping with the lovely songs of Yvette, complete this wonderful movie of the young.
