Program Note
Serbandi, a middle-aged man of Middle Eastern background, is in turmoil. He has lost control of the women in his home. They have become ill-tempered and disrespectful, with the result that his attempts to carry out his patriarchal duties lead only to absurd situations. Serbandi’s life was thrown so out of kilter the day his oldest daughter Minoo arrived from the US to attend her younger sister’s wedding. Minoo is an independent, strong yet destructive young woman who enjoys testing limits in her search for her own life. In his desire to save his beloved daughter, Serbandi tries to tame her wild nature at any cost. But he discovers he has set himself an impossible task: to control the uncontrollable. This is a story about a family in chaos, a lively and eventful film filled with humor but also with a sense of foreboding.
Director
Director
Susan Taslimi
Susan Taslimi started her career in films in 1980. She worked closely with one of Iran’s legendary directors, Bahram Bezai. Her portrayals of women and open protests against the political and cultural atmosphere after the Islamic revolution created a threatening situation, which forced her to leave Iran in 1987. She escaped to Sweden and acted on the theatrical stage for several years. [All Hell Let Loose] is her debut as a film director.
