Program Note
You Shoot, I Shoot is a delightful black comedy ful of unexpected surprises. Hird assassin Bart has to do something strange in order to satisfy his customer. High profile customer Mrs.Ma not only asks Bart to kill her enemy but to also videotape the procedures of the assassination. To fufill Mrs. Ma′s eccentric wishes Bart teams up with Chuen, a New York University film school graduate who wishes to be the Chinese Martin Scoreses. The murdering spree of these two unlikely partners soon unfolds into a bizarre chain of events. Through fast editing You Shoot, I Shoot joyously satirizes a Hong Kong that is possessed by materialism. With tongue firmly in cheek, this film ceaselessly pokes fun at the curel and nauseating realities of everyday life. The liveliness and faster pace of the latter part of this film seems to reflect the ambitions of Scorsese wanna-be Chuen. It will be hard to resist this chaotic film that snickers in the face of a world devoid of ethics.(Kim Young-jin)
