Program Note
[Glove] is a relatively under-rated film of the year along with [Hanji]. It can be said Kang Wooseok’s version of [Take Off] and baseball version of [Shilmido]. Although its box office score is far less impressive compared to those two big hit films, his talent for comedy and drama is melted well into it. The film is a mixture of two of his biggest hits [Two Cops] and [Shilmido]. Its narrative rhythm is also fluent in balance. Performances of Jung Jau-young, Yu Sun, Gang Shin-il and Cho Jin-woong complement one another. There are some awkward moments, directing style rather crude than sophisticated. At times, the sensibility of the story extends to melancholy. However, these unnatural elements enforce the humanly touch to the emotional experience. Naive as it be, moving theme of love and hope is undeniably present. As the main character says, the film carries the love we need at the present. (JEON Chanil)
