Program Note
Make a five-minute love story in any of 20 neighborhoods in Paris with the lowest budget possible: this is the cardinal rule for the 21 different filmmakers of Paris, je t`aime. Set in various spots in Paris, different scenes of love unfold in this unique montage; an accidental encounter in Montmartre, interracial love in Chinatown, passionate love in the subway of Tuileries, intimate love in Le Marais, and other places including the Eiffel Tower, the Quartier Latin, and the Bastille. Seeing city angles different from the cliched tourist view, each episode captures the routines of contemporary Paris and its various socio-cultural elements.
Paris, je t`aime is a collaboration by directors from a wide range of nationalities ? Olivier Assayas, Joel and Ethan Cohen, Gus Van Sant, Suwa Nobuhiro ? and invites us on an unusual cinematic journey to the many faces and places of Paris in varying styles. The highlight could well be Wes Craven`s horror film-esque segment set in the cemetery of Pere Lachaise. This heartwarming film is a must-see for Paris lovers and cinephiles.
