Program Note
"The aim of [London to Brighton] was to create a piece of work that bled reality, that created a world generally ignored in today`s society, a world full of characters that we pass by every day." ― Paul Andrew Williams [London to Brighton] is a compelling, gritty account of 24 desperate hours in the lives of a prostitute and a young girl heading for Brighton to escape an angry pimp after a trick goes wrong. The straightforward thriller narrative, however, belies an angry veracity that avoids cliche in its portrayal of urban violence and a subculture of crime and disconnection. Recalling the social realism of Ken Loach and the gritty veracity of Mike Leigh, Paul Andrew Williams` assured debut film is a powerful piece of cinema that heralds the emergence of a major new talent.
