Program Note
At the center of [Everything`s Gone Green] is Ryan, who`s trying to be apathetic in a modern world obsessed with achievement, and above all, cash. His hippie friend has sold out, his brother is unethical, his newly unemployed father has found a way to profit outside the rules, and Ryan`s work for a lottery magazine gives him insight into how the good life may not be so great. Based on writer Douglas Coupland`s ([Generation X]) first original screenplay, [Everything`s Gone Green] is about winning and losing, having and not having, and once again, he`s able to hilariously crystallize the peculiarities of modern life. Coupland and Fox fashion a sly social commentary about a world where `middle class` isn`t an option.
