Blissfully Yours introduces the issue of Burmese illegal immigrants in Thailand. Min is one such man from Myanmar who falls in love with the Thai, Roong. As Min sets out to find a place for him and Roong to live, he asks the middle-aged woman, Orn, to take care of Roong for him. The film subtly cross cuts between Orn and Min as it proceeds. Min is struck with a strange skin condition while Orn has an affair with Tommy, who works at her husband’s company. The rather claustrophobic visuals shot in long take suggest the characters’ oppressed mental state. Blissfully Yours ends by contrasting characters who experience psychological liberation against those who are caught up in their reality. Roong and Min set out on a trip to the jungle where they reconfirm their love for each other while Orn, who had also taken Tommy to the jungle, has her motorbike stolen during a steamy romp in the afternoon. As Tommy runs after the thief, Orn discovers Roong and Min and bursts into tears when she suddenly realizes how lonely she was. In reality, Min and Roong may be the unhappy ones, but in the jungle it was in fact Orn who was miserable, and for the film, this is the moment that affirms what is important in life. (Lee Sang-yong)
