Program Note
[Destiny] explores the role of religion in our lives as it draws an allegory for the foreign exploitation of Latin America. In an Argentine/Bolivian border town, a community earns a meager living by making ceramics. Using the bones of dead ancestors, it`s how their wares have been produced for generations. One day a man who appears to be a priest comes to town. He arrives with a suitcase full of bibles, promising salvation. Though he has his own agenda, the villagers take his arrival as a sign that a new life could be within their grasp ? as long as they give up some of their autonomy. With the village divided into two camps, each looks to the stranger for guidance.
