Jueteng is a numbers game that has been popular in the Philippines since the Spanish colonial period. It is officially illegal, but jueteng operators may be found all over the country. Millions of people depend on jueteng for their livelihood. It is so lucrative that the big jueteng operators are said to wield undue influence over politicians, the military, the police, and even the church. In the year 2000, the President of the Philippines was charged with accepting payoffs from jueteng, and was subsequently deposed. More recently, the current president, her husband and son were accused of having links to jueteng. Amy is an aging jueteng kubrador (bet collector) as she goes about her daily business collecting bets, avoiding the police, and paying her handler, all the while dealing with events in her personal life, including the recent death of her son. An ordinary meaningless existence can suddenly be challenged by the perplexing game of life, luck and death. (Production Note)
