Program Note
They hang out in clubs, hit the brothels and speed down the streets at night in a convertible. They make a living from petty crime and by picking up the odd client at Omonia square. These are the traits that connect a group of young Pontioi, or Greek Russians, from the Black Sea Coast who are now living in Menidi, an impoverished district on the western edge of Athens. The Pointoi emigrated from Kazakhstan a few years ago and ever since they arrived, they′ve felt like outlaws isolated from the rest of society in spite of the fact that they are all of Greek descent. Desperate for nothing and no one can stop them. Their leader Sasha is the only one who admits that whatever happens now is merely transient. But then, everything against the ruthless world they so wanted to conquer from the edge of the city.
