Program Note
A coming of age film about a 13 year old girl in modern China. Li Wan is forced to live as what her parents asks to be with little freedom. A dog follows her all the time, and she names it Einstein taking good care of it. One day, her grandfather went to grocery market to lose the dog accidently. She blames her family’s indifference to find the dog back, and she tries to rebel only to get icy reaction from her family. In the adults’ world, she tries to eat dog meat, to achieve higher grade in school as asked, to get an award to please them, but she cannot be happy. She only realizes that she has a younger brother when he becomes 2 year old, which doesn’t only makes her more confused but also grows her realization. A severely strict doctrine in Far East Asia known as ‘Tiger Mom’ is only an effective method to develop a good student. Like any others, she has to overcome the growing pain by herself. However more sacrifice is required in a circumstance that no adult admits his fault
and says ‘I am sorry.’ (PARK Sungho)
