Awarded the BIFF 2012 New Currents prize for 36 which consisted of 36 shots, Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit once again shows familiar story in unfamiliar way. With graduation only a few months away, high school senior Mary goes through several ordinary incidents ? she has a new boyfriend, her cell phone made in China blows up, she experiences subtle emotional changes with her best friend. Although her daily life is mundane, to the audience it seems subtle and complicated because it is delivered with tweets. The unfamiliar and unique part of this film is that it shows 410 tweets Mary wrote like a paragraph in her diary. It creates a situation where reality and tweets differ. While in reality Mary says to her friend it’s ok, it wasn’t ok in her tweet. Intersecting her tweet and re-construction of reality, this film vividly captures the emotion and memory of a high school girl. Through condensed sentences in tweets contrasted with lengthy record of daily emotions, it interestingly shows the gap between the way of recording and re-construction of reality in our times.
