Program Note
The youngest son of Badam, a nomad family raising horses in the great plains of Mongolia, comes back home. He was adopted to his uncle when he was three but his uncle passed away. The boy Galt was in deep sorrow but soon had his heart stolen by a little yellow colt. He starts to train the colt secretly to prepare for the village’s annual horse race festival. The directorial debut feature of Busan’s AFA graduate Khoroldorj Choijoovanchig, Yellow Colt could be referred to as a ‘good movie’ in line with the great Iranian tradition. Its world is amazingly full of warm hearts to the extent that it could be seen as a fairy tale. It is clear in delivering messages that humans and animals are better off in their homelands. It is even clearer in showing the beautiful images of the boy and the colt running together in the green plain. Along with these peaceful, harmonizing images, it is very impressive to see the horse races described in a very simple but realistic tone. (KANG Sowon)
