Program Note
An omnibus of six short films produced by Garang Pictures which aims to change the world by new creation of the women by the women and for the women. It gives glimpse of how women would be received in the melting society of Malaysia which has been embracing various ethnics and cultures. Jerat Suami depicts contemporary smarter women who are not afraid of expressing their desire while men complain about feeling like trapped. 1-800-Baby shows how this desperate woman, who had to abandon her newborn daughter 30 years ago, only becomes a sensational item in the yellow journalism. Through Pantang, a contradiction is seen as the woman greatly suffered from postnatal depression once again wants to be pregnant. In Odah, the real self-confidence can be achieved not by the others’ point of view but by her own design. A woman can be self-destructive due to forbidden abortion in Berat Sebelah, or a woman seeking for pleasure runs away from reality by a psychotropic in She. (PARK Sungho)
