A road movie about two young people’s journey into adulthood. Anjani just ran away from home, and Anggalih dreams of becoming a priest. They share a platonic love and leave on a journey together. As they travel, Anjani’s father sends a detective after his daughter to bring her home. Anjani is true to her physical desires and tries to seduce Anggalih while Anggalih continues to hold fast to his religious faith. They are friends and yet somehow their intentions don’t match. Anjani tries to be honest with her feelings, but Anggalih continues to build a wall around his own desires. The toilet is a secretive space, and it is also a place of elimination. At the same time, it guarantees anonymity and allows one to be honest with oneself. Anjani and Anggalih’s journey predicts separate destinations, but also create a space, sad but honest, like the toilet. “Morals” cannot succeed in keeping inner desires caged. This is the message that the director wants to propose to us through Toilet Blues. (KIM Ji-Seok)
