Program Note
This journey to the past takes us to a summer of tragedy. A middle-aged artist returns to an Irish beach town following his wife’s death. The visit reminds him of the romantic yet disturbing past when he became sexually aware and had to watch a tragic incident many summers ago. Only an unexpected revelation will serve as proper atonement and bring closure. John Banville adapted his Man Booker Prize-winning novel that remains with you and Ireland’s own Ciaran Hinds and Charlotte Rampling turn in career best performances. The Sea is Stephen Brown’s debut film. (Jay JEON)
