Program Note
Love at first sight, marriage. Adam and Hanane have fallen madly in love. The young Egyptian girl is a journalist from a humble background. She is writing to denounce the profiteering of the wealthy elite at the people′s expense. Corruption is rife, and American interests are trying to dominate profits from the country′s tourism industry. Adam′s parents and their government allies are at the heart of the system. Adam′s mother, Margaret, holds possessive and violent feelings of love for her son. She is determined to eliminate her rival, Hanane, but Adam′s love for his wife withstands his mother′s plotting. Adam comes to see the negative effects of globalization that his parents favor, international banking greed, and , above all, their links with fanatical political extremists. Hanane and Adam stand together to face the fury, but are made to pay a heavy price to the new world order.
