Program Note
This film follows the intense fascination for Hollywood shared by Korean youth growing up in the 1950′s. Byung-Suk, a living archive of movie trivia, is the Hollywood Kid. With the help of his friends, he sets up a movie fan club called "The Magnificent Seven." Through humorous and touching scenes, the film imagines what it was like to grow up as a Korean boy under the imminent influence of American imperialism just after Korea′s independence from Japanese colonization without being didactic or maudlin. Rather, Jung′s approach is refreshing, fun and thought-provoking.
