Program Note
A short meeting between a TV commercial film director and a lonely old man. Their meeting was fleeting, but the old man’s lifelong loneliness leaves a strong impression on the director. TV Commercial film director, Farhad goes in search of a sunflower village between Iran and Turkey to shoot a film for a sunflower commercial. There he meets Morad, a school groundskeeper from Turkey with a sad story. He tries to cast Morad in his commercial, but Morad will only agree to do it if one of the crewmembers, Ayda, shoots with him. His reason is that Ayda looks like his long-lost love, Bahar, who many years ago died a tragic death. In the end, the sunflower garden disappears, and the shooting is cancelled. What Farhad and Morad share is a life that resembles a sunflower. But the director does not make Morad’s pain the centre of the plot; it is only expressed indirectly amid a background full of beautiful sunflowers. (KIM Ji-Seok)
