Program Note
Kenji, doing building repair work, lives alone in an old house, which will soon be demolished to be redeveloped into an apartment block. His father runs a mountain cabin by himself, and his younger sister travels all around the world. His mother left the house a long time ago. Returning from work, it has become Kenji’s daily routine to eat alone and watch TV. After his boss ran away, Kenji became jobless. He stays in the house that will be demolished, totally dejected. Suddenly three kids show up and play pranks at his house. Counteracting, Kenji and the kids begin to play, and Kenji’s life gradually changes. In Homesick, Director Hirohara Satoru shows a fragmented family and the pain caused by fragmented relationships and its cure. With elaborate workmanship, Hirohara depicts the world where true human relationship is lost, and those who can still find the hint of hope, even in such a world. (KIM Byeongcheol)
