Program Note
A Thai myth revives with contemporary sense of humor and horror romance. The film has broken box office record in Thailand. Mak is called for duty in a battle leaving his pregnant wife at home. After the war, he comes back home with his fellow soldiers. Mak and his beautiful wife Nak reconvene, but the happiness doesn’t last long. There spreads a rumor that Nak is not a human but a ghost, and those who spread the words get killed one by one. Mak’s friends start to believe Nak really is a ghost. As they try to warn Mak, the situation is getting worse and unexpected. With Pee Mak, the director and the writer, Banjong Pisanthanakun remarkably archived commercial success to renew energy for Thai film industry. This success owes a lot to the excellent supporting actors and well-planned story that horror comedy genre films often miss. It is a rare horror film that everyone can enjoy. (PARK Sungho)
