The latest film of Hany Abu-Assad, who constantly brings Palestinian issues to his films, conveys the dismal reality in the Israeli-Palestinian relationship that is threatened by Israel’s persistent effort to build psychological as well as physical barriers between the two peoples. Palestine’s West Bank is surrounded by an ‘isolation barrier.’ This is not a national border but a separation wall that is built across Palestinian settlements. It is, therefore, part of Palestinians’ daily lives to climb over this giant barrier. Omar, Tarek, and Amjad are close friends. Omar is in love with Nadia, Tarek’s sister. One day, Omar is accused of murdering an Israeli soldier and gets arrested. Being intimidated into betraying his own colleagues, he is eventually compelled to face tragedy regardless of his will. His choice is destined to tragedy whether it’s right or wrong, which is the very reality Palestine confronts at this moment.
