Howard Spence is a fading Hollywood movie star whose better days are behind him. Late in his life, he spends his time drinking, doing drugs and chasing young girls. His life has degraded to the point of being an unsalvageable, meaningless existence. After running off the set of his latest film, he visits his mother in the southwest and learns he may have a long lost child-a child that may be the spark that provides meaning amid the futility. Director Wim Wenders re-teams with his Paris, Texas collaborator Sam Shepard in a film about regret, second chances, and the tragedy of recognizing true love too late, described by Wenders as "cool, calm and collected with sudden outbursts of frenzy." Howard′s two core relationships with the estranged son he knows of and the newly discovered daughter reflect themes of love and family relationships in Howard′s joyful, painful and confusing attempt to rebuild his dysfunctional, scattered family. And accomplish something unselfish for the first time in his life. The film also features Hollywood screen legend Eva Marie Saint.
