Program Note
This low-budget independent film conveying Director Sabu’s new perspective on zombies, is a philosophical contemplation on ‘human qualities’. A zombie named Sara is delivered to the Teramoto family. Working as a maid, Sara soon became a sexual plaything for the men of the family. Then, the son, Kenichi, dies of drowning accident, and the mother, Shizuko, forces Sara to bite her belovedKenichi to turn him into a zombie. On the other hand, thinking that Sara robbed her of her husband
and Kenichi, Shizuko tries to kill her husband as well as Sara. In Miss ZOMBIE, the assumed natures of human beings and zombies are overturned. Human beings are extremely selfish and greedy, whereas in contrast to their usual image, the zombie is rather altruistic. When Zombie Sara runs away with Kenichi, she recalls the memories when she lived as a human. Then, who is the true zombie? Through Sara, Director Sabu sharply criticizes how humans are changing in this age of materialism. (KIM Ji-Seok)
