Program Note
A tiny error in everyday life can lead us to where we need to go. A royal housewife Ila who takes care of her husband and young daughter have the lunchbox delivered to her husband in the office. This lunchbox is wrongly delivered to a man Saajan who is only a month ahead of retirement after 35 years of carrier. Two lonely souls in the metropolitan city exchange notes to become closer and closer. Sick of her cheating husband, Illa wants to get out of the situation. Lost his wife long time ago, Saajan plans to go back to rural life. They decided to meet each other soon. Mumbai born, the director Ritesh Batra catches incredible and colorful details in the huge city. Then he neatly directed the film in New York independent film style. Even the Harvard studied 120 years of perfection that Mumbai’s Dabbawallahs(lunchbox delivery men) made can make a mistake. Sometimes a wrong train can drop us at the right station. The director seems to say that the citizens are not perfect and lack of something in daily lives, yet have potential to discover and heal themselves. (PARK Sungho)
