Program Note

The Flower Girl, who lives in the forest along with her Grandmother and sister, has the magical power to transform herself into a flowering tree that bears the most irresistibly aromatic flowers. One day, a wealthy official falls in love with her beauty and fragrance. The Flower Girl becomes his, only to discover that his love is not true. She is eventually rescued and lovingly healed by her younger sister and friends. As she returns to Mother Nature forever, she passes on her magical gift to her band of young followers.

Rajan Khosa

Born in India, Rajan Khosa studied film at the Royal College of Arts in London and at the Pune Film School in India. He lives and works in London. Essentially a Director, he has also written and produced many films. His debut feature, Dance of the Wind (1998), a co-production between five countries, was released across the UK and Europe. It opened at the Venice Int′l Film Festival and subsequently won awards at several festivals including Rotterdam (NETPAC Award), London (Audience Award), Chicago (Best Music) and Nantes (Audience Award and Best Actress). Before his first feature, Khosa made five dramatic shorts winning at various festivals including Oberhausen. The film Wisdom Tree (1986), a 30-minute short, won the Main Prize of the Jury, Film Critics Award and Catholic Film Award - Oberhausen International Film Festival, 1986; and the Special Jury Award - Int′l Film Festival of India, 1987. His other films include: The Moth and The Flame (1992), Mise en Scene (1984), Basement (1984), Conflict (1983), and Cycloid (1982).
