Program Note
Alice is a costume designer in her mid-twenties. She returns to her Tallinn home after vacationing Portugal to discover the television studio she worked for has gone bankrupt. She and her two friends and former colleagues Ada and Yana are suddenly unemployed. Not to wallow in despair, Alice convinces her friends that they are perfectly capable of starting their own business. The Shop of Dreams that they have all the skills to man and manage will provide customers with a new identity for a night. The women′s imagination and determination make the shop a success, but tragedy and the reality of the cutthroat business world force their way into Alice, Yana and Ada′s enterprise. Peeter Urbla weaves a tale about the constant search for identity-through the young entrepreneurs and their clients-while simultaneously reaching for something higher, better and more beautiful. A funny, poignant and life-affirming story about modern women, friendships and loves, and about making things happen in your life.
