Program Note
A nine-year-old boy living on an abandoned riverboat is the setting for this quasi-coming of age story. The boy leads a solitary life until he meets a girl who lives in a house nearby. She provides his first taste of affection and helps him on his journey to discover who he is and where he belongs in the world. She also teaches him that he doesn′t have to be alone. In her latest film, director Dorota Kedzierzawska places the story on the shoulders of a young boy instead of girl, or a young woman, as she did in her earlier films, but nonetheless returns to her preferred themes of the search for love and place in a small town or in the countryside. Kedzierzawska again investigates the desire to belong and a young person′s first tentative steps toward emotional connections.
