Program Note
Set in Berlin, two friends meet in a cafe. Valerie has just moved, while Sophie is leaving for Rome for six months. This film is an attempt to view life from outside, to become detached, not to intervene, but to observe various scenes: Two young women sitting in a cafe on summer days; a family arriving at the airport; an older woman sitting alone in a train; adult children standing in front of the hospital where their father is dying, situations found everyday, a thousand times over. But what happens when you try to depict fundamental decisions about everyday life on film? How much freedom do you need? Do you want children? Should you work for yourself or for others? What do you long for?
