Program Note
Ji-seok rents a room at Sunny′s, a Korean-American woman running a massage parlor in LA. In this city, Ji-seok′s former girl friend Young-shin works as a radio DJ of ′Love Talk. Ji-seok and Young-shin happen to meet again and share a conversation, but their relationship does not proceed any further. Ji-seok feels pity for Sunny, who barely manages her lonely life. As in This Charming Girl, Lee′s direction with delicate facial expressions and fine motions makes this film outstanding. Love Talk is the second work of Lee Yoon-ki, who had attracted worldwide attention with his feature debut, This Charming Girl. Through the arrangement of characters in the frame and their subtle expressions and movements, Lee creates a sharp tension without any dramatic incidents in Love Talk, showing the power of good direction. Unlike his previous work, which was almost minimalist, the story becomes more copious and also the tone of emotional communication becomes more diverse. This film offers a pleasurable experience, allowing audiences to appreciate the progress and change of this talented new filmmaker.
