Program Note
Seventeen-year-old Navid Raisi leaves his small village to look for a job as a teacher of Persian Literature. Put on a waiting list for the next available fob at the Education Center, Navid finds work as a daily worker. One night, he dreams of a young girl. A few days later, he sees the girl in real life and decides to marry her after he gets a job as a teacher. But the Education Center in still not hiring. Unable to wait any longer, he goes to the girl′s house to propose, but finds out she is a divorcee with 3 children and engaged to an old man to support her living. Upset over the situation of young girls in society, Navid protests in the streets and gets arrested. He receives a short leave from jail to register for a job opening at the Education Center, only to find that he is competing against the girl he wanted to marry. They play a game of ′Full or Empty′ to determine who will get the one job being offered. Navid loses and leaves the city on a boat, where he meets another girl-the girl from his dream. Abolfazl Jalili
Born in 1957 in Tehran, Abolfazl Jalili started shooting short 8mm films at the age of fifteen. After making three short films, he graduated to working with 16mm. Working as a writer, director and cameraman, Jalili made several short and feature films. He has made eleven feature films in 35mm, many of which have won awards in various international film festivals. His feature films include Milad(1983), Dance of Dust(1998), A True Story(1996), Dan(1998) and Delbaran(2001).
