Program Note
When violent conflict erupts in their native Sweden, four-year-old Jimmie and his father decide to leave their home to begin a journey to a safer country. Told from a child’s perspective, the story shows fragments of the refugee family’s trip. Jimmie and his dad take an inflatable boat over the black water, wander along railway tracks, and rely on the kindness of strangers to reach their goal—a safe place. Director Jesper Ganslandt’s fourth feature film, Jimmie is about a young boy and his father trying to survive through a hostile war in Sweden. Even though whole thing takes place in an imaginary world, fine performances from the cast, especially Hunter Ganslandt as innocent little kid Jimmie, meticulous direction from Jesper Ganslandt, and very detailed production design make the film plausible. Jimmie is a very heart-warming drama that will remain with you for a long time.
