Program Note
Nine vignettes depict the stages leading to execution for women on death row in this emotional account of the human toll of the death penalty—on both the inmates and those they encounter in their final hours. As we experience their last moments of reckoning, Dead Women Walking poignantly examines how the issues of violence against women, poverty, racial tension and injustice contributed to their tragic fates. This powerful drama about women prisoners who are facing the countdown to their executions seems so realistic that it looks like a documentary. The performances from the actress who play these unfortunate women are powerful and overwhelming, and the way each story is told will touch audiences’ hearts. Dead Women Walking is the kind of film that you will remember for a long time.
