The Great Flood (2025), the latest feature film from director Kim Byung-woo, best known for The Terror Live (2013), will have its world premiere at the 30th Busan International Film Festival. Set against an unprecedented disaster of catastrophic flood, the film delivers gripping suspense, following individuals in their desperate struggle for survival and rescue. Kim Da-mi stars as AI researcher ‘An-na’, while Park Hae-soo plays ‘Hee-jo’, a member of the AI lab’s security team.
Ra Hee-chan’s action comedy Boss (2025) unfolds in the tense days leading up to a boss election that will determine the gang’s future. The story follows a fierce yet comical battle among gang members, each determined to yield the boss’s position to others for the sake of their own dreams. The film’s humor and energy are amplified by the standout performances of Jo Woo-jin, Jung Kyung-ho, Park Jihwan, and Lee Kyoo-hyung
Ha Jung-woo, actively pursuing his career as both an actor and a director, presents his latest work The People Upstairs (2025). The film tells an unpredictable story that unravels over a dinner gathering by an upstairs couple and a downstairs couple, brought together by the nightly occurrence of unusual noises from above. Ha Jung-woo also stars as ‘Mr. Kim’, further enhancing the film’s quality through his dual role as director and actor.
AUDITION 109 (2025), the sequel to Wish (2009), also makes its way to Busan. The film follows the coming-of-age journey of ‘Jjangu’, a young man who moves to Seoul to pursue his dream of becoming a movie star. The project brings together beloved actor Jung Woo and director Oh Seong-ho, whose film Through My Midwinter (2022) swept three awards at BIFF 2021, heightening anticipation among audiences. Notably, following his earlier work as the screenwriter of Wish (2009), AUDITION 109 (2025) marks Jung Woo’s first directorial feature, for which he also wrote the screenplay and starred in the lead role.
Lee Hwan’s Project Y (2025) follows two women drawn into a perilous crime involving illicit money and hidden gold bars. The film features Han So-hee, celebrated for her remarkable action performance in My Name (2021), and Jun Jong-seo, known for her standout roles in Ballerina (2023) and the drama BARGAIN (2022), promising suspense and electrifying on-screen chemistry.
The Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere selection will be showcased at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which take place on September 17 (Wed) to September 26 (Fri) at Busan Cinema Center and throughout Busan.
