2008 APM (aka. PPP) Project The monumental masterwork that paved the way for Korean animation that found both critical and popular success, [Leafie] is based on Hwang Sun-mi’s bestselling novel. The film remains faithful to the original story, “showing a life of dreams, freedom and love through Ipsak, the hen that gives up living in comfort in the chicken coup and runs away from the yard.”The film is doubly tender for the addition of Ipsak’s maternal feelings toward a wild duck it raises. [Leafie] stands on its own as an animation, with all the merits this generation demands: soul, creation, and communication. It exceeded expectations on all levels after the 6 year production drama from planning to postproduction. The staff numbered 120 and ultimately created 120,000 pictures. This was truly a dream come true in animation: a historical accomplishment made with colossal effort boasting an inspirational story with a message suitable for the whole family. The crowning glory is an ideal voice cast featuring Moon So-ri, Ryu Seung-ho, Choi Min-sik, and Park Chul-min, and a theme song sung by IU. (JEON Chanil)
