Ukrainian Jewish brother and sisters Abriasha and Larisha are musical child prodigies on a tour in Russia before the WWII. Hanna, a German girl whose father is dispatched to this region as a government official, forms a friendship with the sisters and hopes to learn music with them. But when Germany invades Russia, their fates begin to follow different paths. As Russia starts to persecute German residents in the Ukraine, the sisters ask their parents to help Hanna’s family by hiding them. Sometime later, as the German military occupies Ukraine, they begin an ethnic cleansing. Now it is Hanna who pleads with her parents to help the girls’ families. During the chaos of war, the three girls, who have forged a strong friendship through music, do their best to help each other, but wartime reality is far beyond their control. This intense human drama poses searching questions about humanity and the insanity of war, whilst painting the Holocaust from the child's point of view. (LEE Sang-yong)
