Program Note
Montmartre, Paris. It is 1910, when the Eifel Tower is half submerged in the Seine’s floodwaters. Emile is a cinema operator and his inventor friend Raoul is a truck driver who also has a secret crush on beautiful cabaret singer Lucille. As a result of a mistake by Emile and Raoul, a monster is born in Paris, causing terror in the city. From beginning to end, this animation brings the early-20th century hills of Montmartre and its neighboring landscape into a beautiful display of colors. Bibo Bergeron works within the frame of [Beauty and the Beast], bringing the basic storyline to this movie and creating a fantastic monster. The love story between Lucille and Raoul and the beautiful songs that embroider the movie are a true delight. The duet by the monster and the main female character is performed by the French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis and pop star M, and is sure to touch your hearts with its indescribable poignancy. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy it filtering through the night skies from Busan’s outdoor screens. (RHEE, Soue-won)
