French reporter, Ada Servier, arrives in Kobe, Japan, a city full of gray buildings. She has come to cover the mysterious phenomena known as ‘Death By Loneliness’, which has occurred with regulartity following the earthquake in January 1995. The only problem is, she cannot seem to find anyone to cooperate with her research. As she interviews a Japanese journalist, one of former victims, she finds a world she’s never imagined. [Memories Corner] begins its journey through memories. Memories in this film are those which belong to the lonely and are only theirs for others easily forget them. Amazingly, the space and the landscape hold on to these memories of the past, and transcend human limitations, releasing them when approached by outside. Audrey Fouche expresses these memories of the space through a uniquely fantastic style. Her point of view leaves a lingering emotion toward the end of the film; her eyes see both the past and present in this city of sadness and desolation. At one point a character observes, “Memories are gift from ghosts, to be loved once again.” ? a description that fits Fouche’s film perfectly. (RHEE, Soue-won)
