Program Note
Star actress Ku Hye-sun shows what a talented director she is with this, her second feature. Some expectation towards the director has led this film to be included in the Vision section instead of Panorama at last, despite the presence of stars such as Nam Sang-mi, Cho seung-woo and Ryoo Duk-Hwan. In all aspects, the film delivers a strong sensation suitable to use the word ‘discovery’. A poetic opening is followed by a story within the story, of Siamese twin brothers in a fairytale. This family drama is unforgettable in itself as a reinterpretation of the bible story Cain and Abel in Ku Hye-sun’s style. Narrative is that much attractive and dramatic rhythm is perfect. The initial impression comes from the characterization of Siamese twins and images of them, the contrast of the two personalities of the twins. Strong performances add to the impact of the film. Especially Nam Sang-mi’s impassioned performance is a must-see. (JEON Chanil)
