Program Note
This film delicately depicts the everyday life of ordinary girls on their difficult journey to adulthood Suzu, who has been living with her boyfriend Furuta, gets fed up with his selfishness and leaves hìm. She goes to her friend Abe′s house only to find another friend Yoko who is living there while Abe is studying in China. Suzu and Yoko are not exactly the best of friends, but are close enough, Subtle uneasiness arises between the two as their love stories get entangled. For Director Nami Iguchi, the fact that Suzu and Yoko live without any hope or goal for the future doesn′t seem to matter. The director intentionally shifts the focus to the present. In this regard, Abe is a significant character as she has a concrete goal for her future in China. The other two girls attach the highest importance to the little things. They mirror each other in a sense. They are never completely honest about their feelings. In one scene, Suzu gets lost looking for a part-time job. In another scene, Yoko gets lost as she tries to help Suzu when she falls ill. Will the two ever reach adulthood? (Kim Ji-seok)
