Program Note
Cassim is a young Muslim working at his father′s fabric store. Kind and handsome, he is loved by everyone. Ebrahim, his father, wants him to run his store afterward but Cassim is hooked on stand-up comedy. As others know about this, Cassim is in a conflict with his father, and his neighbors.
This is a family film whose background is South Africa where different peoples coexist. The film focuses on the Indian community of the country and touches the heart of the audience with its theme of family love. The general theme is the father who wants his son to continue the family business and its subtheme, the conflict among brothers. Both themes are quite familiar. The film shows what is truly important in life by expressing the courage of the young man who moves forward to realize his dream, regardless of his father′s opposition and everyone′s eyes.
