Mark Obrien is a well known poet and journalist. He has been living his life on a gurney because of the polio he contracted when he was six years old. When he turns 38, he decideds to lose his virginity and hires a professional sex surrogate with the help of his therapist and priest to achieve his ‘goal’. The sexual surrogacy is a controversial and sensitive issue in today’s society. But the director Ben Lewin handles this issue with a light humor rather than seriousness so the audience can empathize with the characters in this film even more. The performances of John Hawkes who plays Mark Obrien are just perfect and Helen Hunt and William H. Macy are unforgettable. <The Sessions> is funny, heartwarming, and touching at the end with a significant message to the society. It is simply a flawless film. I can easily say that <The Sessions> is the one of the most impressive films of the year. I predict <The Sessions> will create quite a sensation at the next Oscar.
