Luciano, a Napoli seafood vendor, and his wife supplement their income by pulling minor scams on others. He is a kind husband and father and always enjoys entertaining his customers and relatives. Encouraged by his family, he decides to appear in a reality TV show. Reality is a boisterous multi-layered film that examines the reality of regular people versus the reality seen in shows like Big Brother. The camera's eye at the start and the end of the film gives us the impression that we're viewing the latter type of reality and we are led into the film, into a made-up world where we follow the protagonist as he slowly becomes frighteningly isolated from reality. The humour of the situation is subdued by the implications concerning capitalism. Matteo Garrone’s 8th film is his second Cannes Grand Prix after <Gomorra> (2008).
